Greg was my surgeon when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 1998 at the age of 29. With no family support, Greg's kind manner and caring truly helped me through my journey. I remember the nurses at St John of God being amazed by his neat stitching! He was very impressed when I told him I went bungy jumping in New Zealand. He was very proud of his new rooms at St John of God. He was always a pleasure to see as my doctor twice a year and I was saddened to hear of his passing. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. He truly made a difference in people's lives.

Greg was such a wonderful uncle and an inspiring person to be around and learn from. He lived with such intention, a big thinker who also able to focus so fully on what was in front of him, approaching everything with curiosity and everyone with compassion. I will always treasure the time we had together in the shed, the gentle chat about life around the table saw, and the endearing memory of you that will live on in the furniture we made. I’ll miss you greatly but I’m so grateful to have known you at all. Love Bryn

It is with great sadness that the Senior Medical Staff Group at Barwon Health learnt of the recent death of our esteemed friend and colleague, Greg Mitchell. Greg was a true gentleman, a skilled and caring general and breast surgeon, and a fine teacher. He provided the Geelong region with his highly regarded surgical services for over 30 years. His many contributions to Barwon Health included his surgical expertise and leadership, his passion and advocacy for breast cancer services and development of a sub-specialist breast surgery service, teaching, training and mentorship of many young doctors and a term as treasurer of the Senior Medical Staff Group at Barwon Health. Greg will be greatly missed by all. Our deepest sympathy on behalf of all the senior medical staff at Barwon Health to Greg's wife Bronwyn and his family and friends. We have moved from the Geelong region to Cairns so I am only now reading of Greg's passing. He was my doctor in 2013 and 2015 and I could not have asked for anyone better if I tried. He was caring, informative and the ultimate gentleman. I am very sad for him leaving us - the world is worse off for his passing! My condolences to his family! PS David Davies was an old colleague of mine from TV days!

When I had my first consultation with Greg, we found out my husband’s uncle Bill Mitchell was Greg’s great uncle Bill. I knew Greg’s parents from church in Apollo Bay. Greg was renowned for his fine surgery. I most likely owe my life to him, as so many others would. Am still in shock after having just hearing of his passing. Love to his family.
