HAIR, Beryl Maisie (nee Rogers)
Passed away peacefully on 6 March 2023 at ‘The Vue’, Grovedale aged 94 years.
Dearly loved wife of Laurie (dec).
Loving Mum to Margaret (Dwyer) and Campbell.
Dearest Nanna to her six grandchildren and their partners and her four great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Clear Lake.

Beryl was born in Natimuk VIC and was the second born child of Robert Bert Rogers and Mary Janet Rogers (nee Emmett). She is survived by sisters Margaret Coutts from Kaniva VIC, Verna Wright from the Sunshine Coast QLD and brother Max Rogers from Lower Norton VIC. Beryl was pre-deceased by brothers Douglas (Melbourne, formerly from Edenhope)and Keith (Goroke) and sister Dorothy Finlayson from the Sunshine Coast QLD. Beryl attended Tooan State school where the family lived. Her dad passed away when she was 14. She was lucky enough to win a scholarship to attend Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies College in Ballarat where she boarded for a year. She worked in a haberdashery in Natimuk before she married Laurie Hair from Clear Lake. They were married at the Natimuk Presbyterian Church on 12/4/1950. They then lived at Crofton in Clear Lake until they built their own home across the road from Crofton named Lochleigh because it was ‘beside the lake’. Beryl was the telephonist and post office worker at Clear Lake in the early years of her marriage. She took up golf, tennis, bowls and raised two children with Laurie on the farm. She loved her garden and with the help of her father in law Cyril Hair she grew beautiful dahlias. She was able to use lake water for the garden. Once electricity was connected to the area a pump was installed to pump the water up to the garden. She was a great cook. The shearer’s always looked forward to Beryl’s cooking. She did this every year even when she went back to full-time work in Horsham. She worked as a pharmacy assistant, the bursar at Horsham Technical school and then Wimmera Tourism. Beryl was passionate about each of her work places and put in many, many unpaid hours to get things right. They moved to Horsham when the kids grew up and became independent. When Laurie passed away in 2015 after 65 years of marriage Beryl busied herself with CWA, Cancer Council volunteer and Knitters Club while continuing to try new (sweet) recipes and old favourite sweet recipes. She continued to knit. All the family received a scarf, everyone got a hand knitted rug. In 2016 she decided to move to Geelong to be closer to family. She remained independent in her Belmont unit going to CWA, Belmont Uniting Church and any/all outings offered by Uniting Agewell Kalkee and/or family. On 1/4/23 after two years of lockdowns and Covid isolation she moved to Luson The Vue Aged care where she received the care she needed and in the early hours of 6 March (2 days after she turned 94) she passed away peacefully in her sleep. She never stopped loving her family. Family was her life! Sleep peacefully Mum. I am going to miss you. x
